Kia ora, I’m Nina Field.

I am a NZ business psychologist with a passion for enhancing leadership capability and performance.

Registered New Zealand psychologist Nina Field

I have spent the last 18 years working with people and how they think, act and lead. I spent 11 of those years as a Military Psychologist optimising people performance in demanding environments. During that time, I made my foray into strategy when I had the opportunity to develop a recruitment strategy for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF), an organisation of 10,000. I later worked on strategy as part of the NZDF Psychology leadership team in the Head of Navy Psychology role. Working on strategy got me curious about the psychology of strategic thinking and started me on the path to my work today.

I have also been involved as an owner/operator of two small businesses where I learned lessons which, in hindsight, were strategy lessons – some of them the hard way as small business owners often do. Coming full circle, I am excited to be able to inject some of what I have learnt about psychology and strategy back into NZ small and large businesses.

I love to change the way people perform, think and lead – the way they see their business, their role, the world and themselves in the process.

  • Leadership and strategy development experience

  • Experience developing and coaching leaders and learners - especially those working and training under pressure

  • Facilitation, presenting and teaching experience with audiences ranging from young adults to senior leaders

  • Organisational development, selection and internal consulting experience

  • Qualified in a range of psychometric assessments with nearly 20 years experience using them

  • Professional psychologist supervisor and mentor

What I do

What I do

Play your best game

Playing your best game means maximising individual, team and organisational performance.

It’s not about perfectionism or striving for some impossible, invisible standard.  It’s about getting the best out of ourselves – recognising and overcoming the things that hold us back, playing to our strengths, and leveraging the very special powers we have as humans.

Thrive to think

Playing your best game starts with being in a space of thriving rather than surviving.

Leaders who nurture  their  personal and cognitive capacity give themselves the time and headspace to do their best thinking and their best work.

Think to lead

The solutions you need, and the decisions that are required of you in a demanding and uncertain world require creativity, insight, flexibility, and the ability to mentally navigate through complexity and chaos.

Leaders need clarity of thought around strategy and the actions that will enable execution before they can lead others into an unknown future.

Lead to deliver

Leaders achieve results by inspiring and guiding the efforts of others. Their role is to achieve a desired effect by creating alignment between strategy and execution. Leaders lead to deliver.

I help leaders and leadership teams develop new skills and habits to...

through...

  • Think, act and lead strategically

  • Solve complex problems

  • Decide what to do when there are too many options

  • Focus energy and resources on what is important

  • Have strategic conversations daily

  • Get, and stay, on the same page

  • Thrive individually and collectively

  • Lead with clarity

  • Individual coaching

  • Group coaching

  • Facilitation

  • Co-working

  • Training

  • Psychometric assessment

What I don't do

I don’t do development for the sake of development, or introspection for the sake of interest. Delivery is the end goal. Achieving results. Implementing change.

I’m not a strategy consultant who will tell you where to take your business, and I’m not a strategic planner who will give you a plan for how to get there. You are the expert on your business; I will teach you to think and lead.
